Dr. Dwayne Cantrell is Vice President of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). In this role, he is both Chief Student Affairs Officer and Chief Enrollment Officer for the university. He also serves as the Senior International Officer responsible for supporting the globalization efforts for the campus. The Division of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management consists of more than 26 departments that pursue the mission of fostering a healthy community where every student can belong, grow and succeed.
Before assuming his current role, Dr. Cantrell served as the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Support at CSUB. The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Support consists of 14 departments which attract, admit, enroll, retain, and graduate students and is committed to providing access and support for student success.
Prior to his arrival at CSUB, Dr. Cantrell served for 10 years at California State University, Northridge in the Division of Student Affairs where he provided senior leadership and strategic direction for programs and services that supported access and student success from the point of application for admission to graduation from the campus. He also maintained an active role in teaching, publishing and presenting on a variety of issues related to leadership, student development, team building and personal growth.
For over 30 years, Dr. Cantrell has held a variety of leadership roles within both K-12 and higher educational institutions, including three of the four systems of higher education in California. He also worked in the corporate sector for Coca-Cola and provided consulting services for Nike and E2K (San Francisco 49ers Entertainment). For the past 12 years, Dr. Cantrell has been an active leader and member of the Bakersfield community. He serves on the Boards of Directors on three different organizations including The Mission at Kern County (Bakersfield Rescue Mission) and serves as the Senior Pastor of Living Victory Church. He also served as the Wellness Coach for the Bakersfield College Football team for four seasons.
Dr. Cantrell holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from CSU Northridge, a Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) from Summit Bible College, a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis on counseling and student personnel from San Jose State University.
