Admission Requirements
International admission requirements vary significantly between undergraduate and graduate programs. Please review all document requirements carefully. Graduate programs may have additional criteria beyond the general university admission requirements.

Undergraduate Application
Before beginning your application, make sure CSUB has the undergraduate program for which you are applying. View a list of all CSUB undergraduate programs.
How to Apply: Undergraduate/Bachelor's Degree
To begin your online application to CSU Bakersfield, please visit: www.calstate.edu/apply
Then, follow the instructions below:
- Select the semester you wish to apply for.
- Click "Create an Account" to get started.
- Choose CSU Bakersfield as your campus and select your intended major.
- Complete all four sections of the application.
- Pay the $70 application fee online and click "Submit."

After completing the steps above, please prepare the following documents:
- If you are receiving a government scholarship, you must still complete the form and list your government as the sponsor. A signature from the government is not required.
- If you are receiving an athletic scholarship, list CSUB Athletics as your sponsor. While a signature from from Athletics is not required, you must include your official scholarship award letter as supporting documentation.
- Bank statements must be in English and show a minimum of $38,256 in liquid funds available in the student’s or sponsor’s account. Statements must be dated within the past six months. Investment or non-liquid accounts will not be accepted.
- Government-sponsored students must submit an official "Financial Guarantee for Admissions Purposes" letter.
- Athletics-sponsored students must provide the scholarship award letter from CSUB Athletics.
- First-time freshmen:
- Request official high school transcripts to be sent to CSU Bakersfield. Official transcripts must be in English and indicate proof of graduation.
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 is required for admission consideration.
- Undergraduate Transfers:
- Request official transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended. If you're transferring with fewer than 60 college units, you must also request official high school transcripts to be sent to CSU Bakersfield. Official transcripts must be in English and indicate proof of graduation.
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.4 is required.
- Transcript Evaluation:
- Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the U.S. must be evaluated through a course-by-course analysis. This evaluation must be completed by a NACES approved organization, such as SpanTran or WES.
- Sending Transcripts to CSUB
- When requesting your transcripts and other official documents for your application, please use one of the options listed below. Transcripts received by California State University, Bakersfield Office of Admissions become property of the university and cannot be returned.
CSU Bakersfield will accept official transcripts via the following:
- Sent electronically via Parchment, Certree, National Student Clearing House, Military Services, or e-Transcripts California
- Emailed if your institution provides certified electronic transcripts through another service, transcripts can be sent directly from the institution to the Office of Admissions at incomingtranscripts@csub.edu.
- By mail to:

Please send ONE official copy per institution and keep your order receipt as documentation. Transfer credit visible on a transcript from another institution will not be considered official. It can take up to three weeks to receive and process your transcript. Items will be marked as "Received" on your To Do List once CSUB Office of Admissions receives them.
Please note: Transcripts opened or sent from the student's personal email address will be considered unofficial.
- TOEFL: Score of 61 iBT required. Request scores to be sent to school code 4110.
- IELTS: Score of 5.5 required (with a minimum of 5.5 in each section).
- Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 95.
- SAT with a score of 550 or higher in the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section.
- Pearson Test Examination (PTE): Minimum score of 43.
- College level English course with a grade of C or higher:
- CSUB will not accept online English courses to prove English Proficiency.
- Language proficiency waiver: See whether you qualify for [language proficiency waiver].

Sending Transcripts to CSUB: When requesting your transcripts and other official documents for your application,
please use one of the options listed below. Transcripts received by California State
University, Bakersfield Office of Admissions become property of the university and
cannot be returned.

After completing the steps above, please prepare the following documents below. In addition to these international admission requirements, students must also meet any specific program requirements set by the graduate department.

- If you are receiving an athletic scholarship, list CSUB Athletics as your sponsor. While a signature from from Athletics is not required, you must include your official scholarship award letter as supporting documentation.

Investment or non-liquid accounts will not be accepted. For MBA students, the required minimum amount is $40,028 in liquid funds.
- Government-sponsored students must submit an official "Financial Guarantee for Admissions Purposes" letter.
- Athletics-sponsored students must provide the scholarship award letter from CSUB Athletics.
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required for admission consideration.
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 is required. Please note that individual graduate programs may have additional requirements, including a higher GPA and/or specific prerequisite coursework
- Transcript Evaluation:
- Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the U.S. must be evaluated through a course-by-course analysis. This evaluation must be completed by a NACES approved organization, such as SpanTran or WES.

- TOEFL: Score of 80 iBT required. Request scores to be sent to school code 4110.
- IELTS: Score of 6.5 required.
- Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 105.
- Pearson Test Examination (PTE): Minimum score of 58.
- Language proficiency waiver: See whether you qualify for [language proficiency waiver].
- International students whose bachelor's degree is from an accredited U.S. university.
CSU Bakersfield may waive language proficiency requirements for students from these countries: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Ascension, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, England, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, Scotland, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, Wales, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
- A statement of purpose
- Current professional resume
- Letters of recommendation from former professors
- GRE: 148 Verbal and 149 Quantitative or higher
- GMAT: 500 or better (for MBA applicants)
