Undergraduate Advising
Undergraduate Advising is Adopting a New Case Management Model!
Beginning Fall 2025, the Office of Undergraduate Advising is launching a new Case Management Advising Model designed to provide more personalized, consistent, and comprehensive support for all CSUB students.
What Is the Case Management Model?
In this new model, each student is assigned a Staff Advisor located in the advising center corresponding to their major. This advisor will be your main point of contact throughout your time at CSUB—helping you:
Stay on track with degree requirements
Connect with academic and campus resources
Navigate challenges and celebrate milestones
You can find your assigned staff advisor in your myCSUB portal.
More Support, More Connection
In some majors, you’ll also have a Faculty Advisor working alongside your staff advisor. Here's how they’ll support you:
Staff Advisor: Helps you stay organized, stay focused on your academic journey, and
access support services
Faculty Advisor: Offers mentoring in areas such as research, academics, internships,
graduate school, and career development
Together, they create a team-based approach to advising that centers on your academic and personal success.
Welcome to a new era of advising at CSUB!

Common Advising Questions
All students are assigned a staff advisor in their myCSUB portal, based in one of CSUB’s five advising centers. Your staff advisor is here to support you throughout your entire academic journey, from onboarding to graduation, providing guidance, resources, and personalized support every step of the way.
In addition, some majors also assign a faculty advisor. Faculty advisors are experts in your field of study, and building a strong relationship with them can be a valuable part of your academic and career development. You can also find your faculty advisor in your myCSUB portal.
Find your major and your advisor's contact information through our Find My Advisor list.
If you have a Staff Advising Hold, you are required to meet with your staff advisor. Once you meet with them, they will remove your hold, and you will be able to register for your classes during your registration date and time.
If you have a Faculty Advising Hold, you are required to meet with your faculty advisor. Once you meet with them, they will remove your hold, and you will be able to register for your classes during your registration date and time.
If you do not have any advising holds, you are not required to meet with your staff advisor or faculty advisor. However, it is recommended you meet with an advisor at least once a semester to make sure you understand your degree requirements and you stay on track for graduation.
You may request a change to your assigned staff advisor, but please note that requests will only be considered on a case-by-case basis and must involve extenuating circumstances.
If you believe your situation qualifies, you can submit a request using the appropriate link provided below.

Staff Advising Holds are placed on your myCSUB account as a way to support your academic success by encouraging regular check-ins with your advisor.
The frequency of these holds may vary depending on your individual academic situation, but they are meant to ensure you stay on track and receive the guidance you need throughout your time at CSUB.
If you see a Staff Advising Hold on your account, be sure to schedule an appointment with your assigned staff advisor to have it addressed.

Different majors use roadmaps such as the Program Pathways Mapper and California Promise Degree Completion Plans in different ways.
For some majors, they are examples on how to graduate in two or four years. Courses on these plans may not always be taught in the semester shown and other schedules may be equally valid.
For other majors, these plans are built to help you navigate course sequencing and prerequisite courses in the time frames needed to help you progress to graduation in a timely manner. Delaying courses on some of these plans may negatively impact your long-term timeline for graduation. Courses may be displayed during the specific semester the course is offered.
Be sure to meet with your Staff Advisor and/or Faculty Advisor frequently to ensure you are meeting all degree requirements.
