Once the student is accepted and admitted into the Traditional BSN program, their major will switch to Nursing.

The CSUB Nursing program is impacted; therefore, admission to the nursing program is not guaranteed. Pre-Health students are encouraged to work hard and concentrate on the nursing prerequisites so that they can be competitive candidates for admission to the nursing program. The Department of Nursing has specific policies on eligibility for admissions. Pre-Health students with an expressed interest in applying to the Traditional BSN program should work alongside the Pre-Licensure Nursing Academic Advisor or designated Pre-Health Academic Advisor at the Romberg Nursing Education Center.
For Pre-Health students or students interested in applying for the Traditional BSN program at CSUB, they should review the following documents to familiarize themselves with the policies, procedures, and regulations for admissions:
- CSUB Nursing Catalog
- Pre-Health and Nursing 5-Year Roadmap
- Pre-Health Advising and Admissions Policies

Prospective Students
Current Pre–Health students attending CSUB are encouraged to meet with the Pre-Licensure Nursing Academic Advisor or designated Pre–Health Academic Advisor at least once a semester for educational advising and pre-application planning. Due to the impaction status, the admissions criteria may change periodically. Advising appointments are useful in keeping up to date with current department policies, the status of eligibility, and prerequisite, cognate, and general education completion.
Throughout the advising process, students must be able to represent all academic history accurately. As part of the application process in the Department of Nursing, students are required to submit authentic and official transcripts from all academic work attempted. According to the university, “…failure to file complete, accurate, and authentic application documents may result in denial of admissions, cancellation of registration, or academic credit, suspension or expulsion” (CSUB Catalog 2023-2024). Applicants who misrepresent their academic history by adding, altering, or omitting information will be declared ineligible for admission to the CSUB BSN program.
Registration for continuing students for the subsequent semester will be restricted if there is an Advising Hold or other existing holds on students' accounts. Log in to MyCSUB to view holds. Advising services are provided through the Romberg Nursing Education Center.
Students attending a college or university outside CSU, Bakersfield and are interested in applying for the Traditional BSN program must attend a Virtual Information Session prior to scheduling an individual appointment. A schedule of information sessions can be found on the Traditional BSN Program's home page.
Students who have attended a college or university and are interested in CSUB are considered transfer students. University admissions requirements for transfer students can be found online through the Office of Admissions and Records for Transfer Students. Transfers are welcome to apply to the BSN program and complete the requirements by the published deadline indicated for the nursing application period. Students are encouraged to attend a scheduled information session to discuss plans for applying and/or transferring to CSUB. Transfer students may refer to the Apply Now section on the Traditional BSN Program's home page to see if they are ready to apply for the next application period.
