Charge
The President’s Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics (The Commission) is formed to review the current direction of CSU Bakersfield’s Division I athletics program as the landscape of intercollegiate athletics evolves. The Commission will conduct its work by requesting information, reviewing appropriate documentation and conducting voluntary interviews in accordance with relevant privacy, employment and confidentiality laws. External expertise may be requested throughout the Commission’s work. The Commission will be led by a faculty member recommended by the Academic Senate and a member of the CSUB Community appointed by the President. At the conclusion of this effort, the Commission will advise both the President and the Director of Athletics.
Specifically, the Commission is charged with reviewing oversight structures, reporting lines, and decision-making processes of CSU Bakersfield’s Division I athletics program. The Commission will:
- Recommend structural and administrative changes to better align athletics with CSUB’s mission and values.
- Assess readiness to adapt to changing legal and policy frameworks (i.e. NIL, Title IX).
- Recommend strategies to promote student-athlete success academically, athletically, and personally.
